With Kadar taking a day off and all of his schoolwork done, Felix had quickly gotten bored. He didn't have any specific friends at Hollow Aspen yet due to his rigid homework and riding schedule, so he hadn't been able to think of anyone he really wanted to get together with. Also, since he was from the mainland, he was not accustomed to Vancouver Island. He had considered hopping into his Volkswagen and leaving Victoria for the day to see some of the other cities. But he didn't have his TomTom and would've felt uncomfortable and would likely have gotten lost. So Felix had grabbed a good old paper map of Victoria and the surrounding area, packed a lunch, and hopped into his car. He was going to the beach. There was word in the student lounge that a lot of Hollow Aspen's students were heading to Tribune Bay, and that it was 'one of the best beaches ever.' Felix had located it on the map and figured out the general route he would take, and that was that.
It was a 10 minute drive through the city until he reached countryside where the houses thinned out and became more scarce among the green scenery. Eventually the foliage grew thick and trees lined the side of the road. He felt as though he were driving down a road bordered by a wall of tall trees. The forest on either side of him thickened and gave way only to long, steep driveways that headed down on one side of the road. He could catch glimpses of blue through the trees as well. He drove for what felt like forever when he saw a faded sign with an arrow that read, "Tribune Bay." Felix flipped his signal and turned, accelerating at a quick rate as he sped down the road. It turned from concrete to dirt and the thickly lined road gave way and he was suddenly in a large open space that was clearly a parking lot. Picnic tables lined one side of the large parking lot and port-a-potties were dotted along the sides.
Felix found a spot in the shade and turned his car off. Grabbing his lunch, he got out of his car, removed his shirt and put it in his bag, then took his shoes off and slipped his feet into his flip flops. Lastly he grabbed his sunglasses off of his dash and then shut and locked his doors. Finding the path to the beach wasn't difficult, and he smiled at a few people as he headed toward the water, which was growing rapidly more visible. The excitement he felt was clearly hard to mask as he began to positively beam at passers-by. In Alberta, they had no beaches like this. All the ones in his area had quick abrupt drop-offs and murky water. The water here was clear and blue, and the decline was gradual. Finding a semi-shady spot to place his belongings, Felix walked toward the water. As his feet met the edge of the shore, he grinned again. The water was cool and refreshing. Without hesitating any further, he dived in. The water felt totally fabulous on his warm tanned skin. When he surfaced, he shook his head, water droplets going everywhere. Some girls were looking at him, and he thought he recognized a few. He realized they must be from Hollow Aspen, and he smiled and waved cheerfully.

She was getting ready for a relaxing day at the beach. It's gonna be nice. Catch a few rays of sun and maybe even swim a little bit. I hope the water's cold because my phone says it's gonna be hot today. she thought as she scrolled through the weather forecast on her iPhone.
She smiled and put her phone into her bag on top of the blue towel she had folded up earlier. Lissa walked over to her fridge and pulled out pitcher of iced tea. She took out a covered cup, filled it halfway with ice, and poured the iced tea into it.
Mel picked up the cup, headed into the back hallway, slipped on her flip flops, and picked up her bag with her other hand. "Off to the beach!" she declared to herself, grabbing the keys to her red convertable. Melissa set her drink in the cup holder and her bag on the passenger seat.
As she started up the car, Melissa turned the radio up and slipped her sunglasses onto her face. She backed out of her garage, pushed the button to close the garage door, and headed down the road for the beach. She rolled down her window and rested her hand on the window, keeping one hand on the wheel of her car.
The road to the beach came into sight within a few minutes. I got here faster than I thought. Seven minutes. she thought as she turned onto the dirt road. The parking lot came into view and Melissa took a spot near the exit. "Easier to get out." she said as she grabbed her bag and iced tea and headed out to find a spot on the sand.
There was a nice spot that was near the shade of a tree. Melissa set her drink down, making sure to push it into the sand, and put her bag down there as well. She pulled out her towel and spread it out in the sun. Melissa pulled off her white cover-up, kicked off her flip flops, and looked around.
Lots of people were here today. "Perfect." she said as she put her cover-up into her bag over her phone. Hopefully no one will steal it. she thought as she set her sunglasses into the bag as well. She walked down to the water and smiled as the waves lapped at her toes. "Oh. It's so cold." she murmured to herself and began to walk into the waves. She sighed as she fell down into the water, letting the cold water swirl around her. As she came back up, she fixed her wet bangs so that they swept gently to the side.
She sighed and sank down into the water up to her shoulders. "This feels so nice on a day like this." she murmured and closed her eyes.

When Felix had waved, the girls had giggled like tweens and he had smiled once more briefly before turning away in a haste. He couldn't stand girls who giggled immaturely when a guy so much as waved to them... I mean, Felix knew he was good looking and he appreciated a girl who swooned over him, but not like some silly 6th grader. His idea of positive swooning was them hanging off of him, encouraging him to grope them... Well, maybe not that exactly, just not what those girls had been doing. Felix grimaced, his nose wrinkling up in mild disgust.
When he felt he had walked far enough, he turned to the waves once more and dove in, doing a breast stroke a good distance out, until his toes couldn't touch the bottom anymore. He stayed in once place, treading water. The salt water felt great; it took very little effort to stay afloat due to the buoyancy one had in the ocean. Facing the shore, he scoured the beach to see if he could see any other familiar faces. The girls from before were still standing in a tight knit group. He knew he recognized one of them from Hollow Aspen, but the others didn't look familiar at all. Probably a local girl attending Hollow Aspen getting together with her friends... No biggie, he thought. Then his attention was grabbed by an attractive and altogether very familiar young woman taking a dip. She came up gracefully, her dark hair plastered to her face. When she righted it, her name popped into his head. Luxe. Melissa, I think. She's a Fidens. Every team had an online roster with names, ages, and pictures, so that you could meet up with fellow team mates. It seemed that anti-socialism was a Hollow Aspen thing. Felix had noticed that not a lot of people had team spirit.
Going back under, he breast stroked toward the girl who was relaxing in the shallow water, her eyes closed. He donned a charming smile and called out to her. "Hey, Fidens!" he was rapidly closing the gap between them, and figured calling out to her would get her attention so he didn't startle her when he came upon her.

Lots of people had come to relax at the beach for a while. Even Mel had come to relax. After winning second place in the Show Jumping competition for the Fidens team, she needed to give Drake and herself a small break before their upcoming Dressage competition.
She sighed and sunk under the water again before coming back up and fixing her hair again. It gets so annoying with these bangs, but at least they look good. she thought as she sank down to her shoulders again.
"Hey, Fidens!" came a voice from behind her. Melissa turned around to see where it had come from. It was hard to tell if it was aimed at her or someone else because she probably wasn't the only Fiden at the beach today.
Melissa saw a young looking guy swimming toward her. She smiled as she recognized him as a Fiden. It's Felix Caordan. she thought with relief. At least it's not some complete stranger who decided to say hello.
She looked over at him, waiting for him to come within talking distance. When he was close enough, she said, "Hi. You're Felix rightSTAFF POSITIONS I recognized you from the Fidens team's roster." Melissa tucked her bangs over again as they began to slip over onto her forehead.

"Hi. You're Felix rightSTAFF POSITIONS I recognized you from the Fidens team's roster." The girl had a really cute voice - it matched her face, which in some ways was more cute than gorgeous. Like she was still slightly baby-faced and had some maturing to do. For Felix, this was alright; there was potential for her to blossom into a rare and beautiful flower. Judging from her looks right now, it was not only possible, but highly likely. He winked cheekily at her. "Yes ma'am, Felix Caordan. Now I'm up close I totally recognize you, too. You're Melissa...... LuxeSTAFF POSITIONS " He knew her first name but wasn't totally certain on the last name - not that it really mattered much. He was just used to introducing himself by his first and last. It probably had something to do with his father being an upstanding gentleman who was called Mr. Caordan in public by even his children, Felix included.
Then suddenly, something donned on Felix. "Hey you're the girl who won first in the most recent Show Jumping event at Hollow Aspen, rightSTAFF POSITIONS If so, way to be, girl! Winning us Fidens some points, and looking mighty fine while doing it, I might add. I was drooling while watching your round... Drooling at that extremely talented horse you were riding, of course." Felix winked again playfully, knowing that, with how thick with sarcasm his voice was, she would know he was joking. Joking about the drooling over the horse bit, at least. Because truthfully, he had found the second-place rider extremely attractive, and had wondered who she was exactly. He'd missed her name in the standings, and when he glanced over the team roster a few nights afterward, he was sure it had been Melissa. Now, seeing her in person, he was sure he was correct. "I only placed fifth; my stallion, Elektronikal, or Kadar, as we call him, was totally fabulous. I, on the other hand, succumbed to pressure. Totally forgot my pattern and had to circle to remember it. Didn't I feel like a total tool." The man brushed the hair back from his forehead, smiling sheepishly at the beautiful girl in front of him.

"Yes. My last name is Luxe." she confirmed. "And it's nice to finally meet you, Felix." He seems nice enough. And we're on the same team so... I guess spending a little time to get to know him wouldn't be too bad. she thought.
She laughed at his saying she had won first place. "No. Unfortunately I came in second place by a few points." Mel replied. She raised an eyebrow at him as he said he had drooled when he watched Drake and Melissa do their Show Jumping run. Nice cover up! she thought sarcastically as he covered it up with "drooling over that extremely talented horse."
Melissa smiled at his mentioning he got fifth in the last competition. "I thought I had seen you somewhere recently." she said. "And I can totally relate to the messing up thing. I've done it many times before." She smiled at the thought of her first competition. I completely messed up. Drake performed well, but I did the whole course backwards! she laughed inwardly at herself.

Felix smiled cheekily. "SecondSTAFF POSITIONS SecondSTAFF POSITIONS That was definitely a first place performance. That and your looks must have addled my brain." He winked at her and ran a hand through his damp hair. The sun was already starting to dry it - the great thing about having short hair as a male was that when you hopped out of the shower, you were dry like five minutes later. It was fabulous, without even needing to touch a blow-dryer!
The man glanced around the beach. "So what exactly brings you hereSTAFF POSITIONS Just the fact that it's bloody hot and the water is coolSTAFF POSITIONS " That was more or less why Felix had come. That and because he had no real 'people' at Hollow Aspen that he'd enjoy spending time with. He'd rather spend his time alone (partially) and have chance meetings like this one with Melissa. The majority of his chance meetings seemed to be female-male encounters too; Felix liked that. "And are you all alone out here, pretty ladySTAFF POSITIONS " He smiled charmingly. Surely she had people to come with - but then again, maybe she did come alone. Just as long as she wasn't a part of that group of giggling imbeciles, Felix figured it didn't really matter either way - he was just curious.

"Thank you." she said with a smile. Mel took the ponytail off her wrist and pulled her hair into a low ponytail. Guys are so lucky. Their hair dries so much faster than us girls' hair. she thought as she slipped her arms back under the water.
"Well, I just needed a day to relax. And yes, the fact that it was so hot was also another reason for my coming to the beach today." Lissa replied. She smiled and her cheeks turned a little bit pink at him asking her if she was alone and him calling her a 'prettylady.'
"Yeah. I came alone. I just couldn't find a friend to come here with." Melissa answered. It was nice to have found a friendly face at the beach after having her friends not being able to come with her.

Felix smiled. "Everyone's too busy or just don't want to go out in this heat, even if it means going for a cool dip, heySTAFF POSITIONS " He wondered what her friends could be busy doing, and if by 'friends' she meant one or two people, or if she had gaggles of them back at school. She was beautiful, seemed smart enough, and was friendly (or maybe it was just because he was so good looking!) so surely she had tons of her own 'people.' That was Felix' major problem. He was pretty anti-social for starters, and secondly didn't get along well with males as a rule. There was the odd one he could and would tolerate, but generally he preferred the company of females. Company for studying, hanging out, or for ... 'Sleeping.'
"Eh, yeah. I don't really have any friends that I like enough to go anywhere with. Plus, flying solo gives me the opportunity to meet up with new people, like you. I mean, I know of you but didn't really know you up until today. So that's pretty cool." He winked cheekily. The sun was shining down hotter than ever on his broad tanned shoulders, and he could feel that he had completely dried off. He was sure, too, that standing here in the water with his upper torso and head exposed had made his hair dry too. Maybe not completely dry, but it was surely at least mostly dry. His hand journeyed up to his head and he ran his fingers through his hair. Just as I suspected. Dry. And it's so bloody hot! Wordlessly and without warning, he dunked himself back under the water and swam a few meters away from Melissa, then turned to swim back, surfacing right where he had left from.

It's just like people want to laze around in their houses with nothing to do but watch TV or work on school work." Melissa smiled. Which reminds me. I still have a quick essay to finish... she thought, biting the inside of her cheek. Mel shook the thought off and returned her attention to Felix.
"I totally get that. I used to have a friend like that and I was like one of his only friends." she replied to his comment about 'flying solo.' Lissa gave a small smile as he winked at her. Such a flirt. she said to herself and inwardly rolled her eyes.
Melissa's hair had begun to dry on top, right where the sun was hitting. As Felix dunked himself under the water, Lissa decided that was a perfect opportunity to get herself cooled off under the water. She kicked her legs out from under herself and slipped under the water gracefully, letting the coolness of the water soak into her. Mel resurfaced and swept her bangs over to the side again.
