In the sea and the sun and the sand ...
Frankly, Noah felt four kinds of stupid right now.
Most of that had to do with the fact that after a quick trip to town to pick up one of his bags which the airline had inconveniently misplaced and thus had to deliver afterwards, he had somehow not taken the right turn-off. Which meant he was not where he should be. In all honesty, Noah wasn't sure where he was.
It didn't take a genius to realize that the parking lot was filled with trailers and trucks of various sizes, and that most likely he had reached the stables. Not that he wasn't interested in them - quite the contrary, he couldn't wait to explore them. But that still left him with the inconvenience of not knowing how to get back to the school, courtesy to him being here not even twenty-four hours yet, if he was correct.
Timezones were a bitch, he agreed silently with himself as he realized he could hardly estimate the current time. Then again, he'd made a bit of a time jump when he flew down (or rather, up) here and tried to settle in. Hadn't really succeeded yet, but part of that had to do with a suitcase of emotionally valuable stuff missing, not to mention one of his 'spare pair of legs', the absence of the familiar sounds of home, and the lack of either JJ or Karoo. The dog should arrive later tomorrow, if he was right, and his mare... Well, he just prayed she'd be accepted too. It wasn't just his skill that had landed him on the radar, that had granted him moderate (or above average, depending how you looked at it and with which horse) success, although now he was here he was starting to doubt himself a little. Karoo had helped him more than a little in some occasions - despite her relatively young age, she was a strong horse and having been under the saddle for four years already, she had a decent routine.
Perhaps requesting his greenest horse to be taken along wasn't all that smart, but he was confident that with Karoo, he'd come further than ever before. Tendai had been good enough to get him out of the middle class, but Karoo'd get him in the upper class.
If he got to his appointment at the school office in time, that was.
Getting out of his car, he locked it absent-mindedly and glanced around, not seeing someone at first glance. "Darn," he muttered softly as he started towards one of the big buildings near him - perhaps someone was in there.

[/div] tearing love apart, Kimberly felt very odd, driving her black pick-up truck in a plad mini-skirt and a riding jacket. Well, maybe the skirt wasn't "mini" but it was very short. She was surprised that the school actually authorized them. The skirt only went down about one third of her leg which only covered her butt by a few inches. That was not something that Kimberly was really comfortable with. She wasn't the type of girl that dressed like that on a regular basis. She wore bikinis and such but, not mini skirts. She actually tried to avoid skirts at all costs. As she pulled into the parking lot, she saw a new person. Or what seemed to be a new person. This wasn't an incredibly big school but, it was moderately sized. He looked a bit lost to her. So, after getting out of her truck and locking to doors, she walked her 5 foot 5 inch frame over to him and introduced herself. Hi, uhm, I'm Kimberly. I don't think I've seen you around, are you newSTAFF POSITIONS She didn't want to tell him that he looked lost because that would be just rude. But, she wanted to help him still. She knew the buildings rather well and she knew where the classes are. She had memorized them within the first few days of being here. So, she was capable of helping the stranger out as good as anyone else. words, outfit, whatever you want

In the sea and the sun and the sand ...
The footsteps alerted him of someone approaching, so he didn't startle (much) when a friendly female voice addressed him. Granted, he'd seen her coming too, but she was not coming from the side he was paying the most attention to... Until now, that was. " Ja*, I've only just arrived," he answered her with half a smile before remembering his manners. Extending a hand towards her, he looked her over once in a simply-curious way, making sure his eyes didn't linger on the almost indecently short skirt as he too introduced himself. " I'm Noah, student of here as of... Well, not even twenty-four hours ago. And that includes moving into my room," he good-naturedly 'complained', even if his voice was tinged with tiredness. He'd been up for quite a bit of aforementioned twenty-something hours. Sleeping on the plane, while attempted more often, simply refused to come, so his overnight flight had been long, boring, long, and tiring. And making the miles from the airport to here, getting most of his stuff stowed away in the room assigned to him only to return back to the town to collect his last suitcase... Yeah, he was ready to call it a day. Almost. " If ya don't mind me askin'... Could you tell me how to find the school officeSTAFF POSITIONS I've got the feeling I'm at the wrong place," here, his lips quirked up in a full-blown bashful smile - wasn't too hard to figure out he was not at the main school building after all " but I'm not even sure where this wrong place is, so finding the right place is harder than I care to admit," he asked her after a brief pause in which he had debated asking for help. He didn't particularly want to, but well, at some point he had to overcome his pride and ask someone. This Kimberley properly was as good as anyone - especially since he still hadn't seen someone else around. " I'm supposed to go to the school office today, finalize the paperwork, get a stamp of approval for my dog and all that jazz. Granted, it helps if I'm actually there then," he continued, a slightly playful lilt to his voice as he 'vented' his frustrations with himself in a hopefully non-serious manner. Noah was a bit overwhelmed by it all, which he assumed wasn't all that strange, but it was still a feeling he didn't like. It made him second-guess and doubt himself, both of which he hadn't done in a long time. Even now he gave a brief glance down, a mere fraction of a second, to check he wasn't standing too odd and that his pants weren't snagged or dirty somewhere. After another very brief silence, he again smiled at the woman bashfully. " Sorry. Pent up frustrations from driving around too long and still ending at the wrong address," he apologized to Kimberley, aware that he was rambling a bit, probably due to nerves and impending exhaustion. ... and the wind out of Africa

[/style][/td][td] [atrb=border,0,true] From the first words of the new stranger in town, Kimberly could tell that he was not from around here. Maybe he was Dutch or German or something. She didn't know very many other people from European countries so, this would be a new experience for the girl.
As Noah extended his hand out to her in a greeting, Kimberly took it and smiled. Nice to meet you, Noah. Kim could tell that Noah had been tired and that he must have had a very long flight on the way over here. She, had been born in America so, she could have driven here if she really wanted to. But, it didn't sound that Noah was as lucky.
Kimmy was happy to give Noah the directions. Thankfully, they were not far from the main office. Yeah, actually you aren't that far. She laughed a little before continuing. You're actually just at the wrong end of the parking lot. The main office is just down there. She extended her arm and pointed to a building that was 100 maybe 200 yards away. Looking back at Noah, I can take you there, if you's like. Kim smiled at Noah after her offer. She didn't have class for another twenty minutes or so. So, she was plenty of time to show Noah around a little bit. She remembered being the new girl in town as well, and she wanted to help Noah out. Actually, she was still considered a "new girl" she had only been here for a few weeks and she had only met a few people.

In the sea and the sun and the sand ...
" Good," he stated fairly blunt but he did see the humor in it. Sort of, anyway - he'd be able to laugh about this tomorrow, after a good and hopefully long night of sleep. His grin did lack a bit in humor, though. " Guess they should give the new students a map if they expect us to arrive strictly on time," he half-quipped. In a way, it did bother him - if he needed to be somewhere on time, he put in the effort to actually be on time, and so wasn't too fond of being late, even if it wasn't really his fault. Then again, the first few days students apparently were cut some slack, what with their horse(s) not there yet, a room to settle in and, in his case, getting adjusted to a different climate and timezone. And the climate was different, but so far he was quite liking it. Cool temperatures and rain were a bit of a change during the day, but cold nights STAFF POSITIONS Not so much. Just a bigger change given he came from the start of summer rather than the end of fall, but well. Just one more challenge, right STAFF POSITIONS " I'd appreciate that," he accepted her offer with a slight smile of his own. " I'm supposed to be picking up my roster, sign some more paperwork..." His smile grew a bit at that - paperwork, the bane of nearly everyone's existence, and there were a few more forms than he had anticipated, although at least they didn't need to be filled in in triplicate. And perhaps, if he was lucky, there'd be word whether his horses were or were not accepted - hell, if only he'd get word they were out of quarantaine he'd be happy. If it was necessary, he had paperwork of his own to show for their health, but well, he'd see about that later. For now, he was confident they were okay. First things first, after all - get the last of the paperwork signed and done and see his roster. ... and the wind out of Africa

[/style][/td][td] [atrb=border,0,true] Yeah, that wouldn't be a bad idea. She said, responding to his comment about new students needing a map. She remembered her first day here and she had been more lost than a blind person leading a blind person. It was bad. Luckily, she had met James who had been very nice and they had gone on a nice long trail ride together before looking at his project horse, Venom.
She made a fake "sick" face at the sound of paperwork. She hated the sound of it. She didn't mind so much when it was homework or applications for competitions but, she did hate needing to do paperwork for things like the stuff that Noah was going to need to do. Like she had done on her first day. Have fun with that. She said to him as she smiled and laughed a little bit.
She started walking in the direction of the main office, hoping that Noah would follow her.

In the sea and the sun and the sand ...
He grinned mostly humorlessly as he made a mental note to mention it once at the office. They'd probably ask if he had any questions at some point, anyway, and while a suggestion wasn't a question, it'd do the trick. Perhaps. And if they weren't inclined to listen to it, well, no harm done. Perhaps a few folk that didn't like him much, but he didn't much care for their opinion, overall. It might not be a good start, but he was sure there'd be more people who weren't sure about what he was doing there, for example.
"Oh, I sure will," he replied, sarcasm coating the words as he grimaced. Noah really wasn't sure what he still needed to fill in, read and/or sign - between admission papers, insurance papers, copies of his passport, his medical files as well as signed letters from his doctors that it was 'safe' for him, even the clean bills of health for his horses had been in the numerous packages he had sent. Then again, it was true, things as his dorm room hadn't been handed over or signed for yet, so that might be it. He hoped it was just something as small as that and nothing bad or restrictive - he knew he wasn't the average student, even if he just wanted to be treated like that (well, minus how his dorm room, especially the bathroom, was equipped. There, he did need a few extra things).
"Thanks for the help, by the way," he thanked her in advance as he followed her, aware that his gait portrayed an oh so small limp.
