Cara yawned as the sun shone brightly into her dorm room. She turned to her side, grumbling and looked at her clock. It read 8:47 am. Cara looked back outside, her blonde hair falling around her shoulders. Better ride early outside then late inside, she sighed inside her head pulling herself out of her black and white bed. She quickly cleaned up, washing her face and changing out of her happy face pajamas and into her riding clothes. She walked out of the dorm building and headed towards the stable where Nimo was located.
When Cara got to the barn she opened up her locker and grabbed a sugar cube for Nimo. He gobbled it up when Cara offered it to him. He bickered for more but Cara walked back to her locker and grabbed her brushes. In no time he was sparkling clean and had his tack on. Cara put her helmet on and led Nimo to the outdoor ring. Bird song filled the air welcoming them.
She rolled down both stirrups and mounted into the saddle off the ground. She gave her horse a scratch on the neck and let him walk around on a loose rein as she gathered herself up.

Kadar had been a bundle of nerves ever since Felix had mounted an hour earlier. He was an early riser and he preferred to get Kadar ridden before the sun set too high in the sky and shone down too ferociously. It was awful hot recently at Hollow Aspen.
He had pranced through all of their flatwork and Felix himself felt wound up, both from school and from the stallions inability to focus on anything for an extended period of time. So, instead of fighting with him any longer, he had opened the gate and headed down the trail. Felix felt Kadar relax almost immediately as the sounds of the early birds whistling cheerily hit his and Kadar's ears. Kadar had been nicknamed so because he had huge ears, but Radar was 'too common' a barn name for Felix' liking. So Kadar it was. The aforementioned ears swung too and fro as the birds sang and frogs croaked louder and louder as they neared the pond.
He's a totally different horse outside of the ring. Felix pondered, stroking the stallion absently by his withers with one hand as his other rested on his knee casually. There was no tension in the stallions forward swinging walk and he was snorting happily with every stride. I need to do this more often. But it's so hard... We have shows coming up. We need to be ready... He must have tensed at this thought, because he felt Kadar tighten under his legs as well. Felix smiled and stroked his neck vigorously, at which Kadar arched his neck. "It's OK Kades. It's just me being an enormous worrywart, as per usual." The stallion shook his mane temperamentally at the smart claps he was receiving on the neck. Felix chuckled again and gathered up his reins.
The pair moved forward into a trot, Kadar's long springy stride easing Felix up and out of the saddle. He posted at a relaxed pace, allowing Kadar to take his time and pick his way through the path. They had passed the pond and now the frogs melodies were fading into the distance. The trail they were on went in a big loop, and Felix knew that he would soon see Hollow Aspen's outdoor ring come back into view. Kadar was so soft in his hands that he sat deeply and pushed his calf into his side, and he jumped forward into a joyful canter. It was a bit fast, but Felix didn't mind - the wind on his face felt fabulous. He lifted himself up into 2-point and let Kadar's speed increase naturally. The stallion felt just as joyful beneath Felix as Felix himself did.
They rounded the bend and the ring came into sight. Felix sat again, letting his weight sit him heavily in the saddle, and Kadar came back naturally on his own. Felix aided him by adding a little pressure to the bit. They returned to a extended walk and Felix noticed a girl in the ring on her horse. Another warmblood type; at least she wasn't one of those silly western riders. Without acknowledging her or contemplating the horse any further, he dismounted, let himself into the ring, and closed the gate again, mounting swiftly and clucking Kadar into a working trot. This trot was not like the easy, relaxed gait he had ridden in the woods; this was the extended trot of an extremely talented, well schooled Dressage horse, who was finally ready to get to work.

Cara did the girth up a hole as Nimo walked around the ring. Once it was tight enough she swung her leg and stirrup back down to it's normal position. She pulled the reins tighter in her hands and started on a nice hunter under saddle trot, letting Nimo stretch down as he covered the ground in large calm strides.
Cara had set up a 1.15 jumper course and a few ground poles for today's work. She picked the gelding's head up a little more gaining more contact on his mouth as she steered him to the poles with a strong leg and a small pressure in the bit. He got to them at a perfect pace and trotted through them with ease. She did it a few more times before slowing down to a walk and taking a small break.
She looked up as another horse came to the ring. She didn't know the rider or the horse but they looked nice. The horse had an amazing extended trot. Probably a dressage horse, Cara though thinking back to her mothers two eventing horses that she did a bit of dressage on. She wasn't the biggest fan of it and preferred jumping. She gave a small smiled to the new comer and nodded as she picked the reins back up again.
Cara decided to collect and round Nimo up a little more as they did more collateral work. Nimo rounded his neck without needing to be asked and as they trotted along the long side of the ring Cara bent him around her inside leg doing a haunches in. Even if she didn't do dressage it was good for the horse. After doing a few leg yields and shoulder ins, Cara picked up the canter and hand galloped around a few times.

Felix was careful to stay out of the girls way as he pushed Kadar from an extended trot into a collected canter. The stallion arched his neck naturally with no extra help from Felix' seat or hands. He felt so tremendously powerful beneath Felix that he couldn't help but smile. He loved when the horse did his job like he was right now - so willingly, happily, and so perfectly. Felix' allowed two of his fingers to move forward and stroke the stallions neck just in front of the saddle - a 'good job' skritch. The boy sat deeply in the saddle and Kadar broke to a walk with no other prompting. The stallion went mostly off of seat and legs. Felix loosened his reins and Kadar stretched his neck out and down, snuffing the dirt as he walked, nodding his head in a strange fashion. Felix watched the girl doing lateral work with her horse. They were a nice pair; they flowed well together, just like Felix hoped he and Kadar did. About halfway around the arena, Felix picked Kadar up again with light rein pressure and a gentle calf-squeeze. He pushed the stallion forward into a working trot and began to 'copy' the girl, doing shoulders and haunches-in and leg yields. Kadar was so soft and supple beneath Felix. He felt like soft butter in his hands. This is the horse I love to ride. This is the horse I need to find every time I get on. Pushing the stallion back into a canter, he pushed him forward, extending his stride with his seat and legs. The stallion stretched out willingly, his body a total powerhouse beneath Felix. Another smile lit up his face. Making sure he wasn't in the girls way, he turned Kadar down the center, avoiding the jumps, and did tempi-changes - switch, switch, switch - from one end to the other. Bringing the stallion back, Felix rubbed his neck happily. "Good boy Kades. Seriously, good boy!" It hadn't taken Felix long to introduce tempi-changes to Kadar - the horse had picked them up extremely well and faster than he could have hoped for. Dressage was really the horses "thing." Jumping, however, was Felix' "thing." Felix loosened his reins again, not wanting to push the horse too much at one time. He wanted to do some work and have Kadar be happy to oblige. His eyes searched the ring for the girl, who looked happy enough atop her horse. "Nice animal you have there." Felix called out, in a strangely unlike-himself display of friendliness. It wasn't that he was a jerk, or that he disliked people as a rule, he just wasn't a forwardly friendly kind of guy. He was just so damn elated at the difference between Kadar an hour ago and Kadar now, that he just felt like talking about it. Or just talking, in general. "I'm Felix Caordan. A Fidens. "Whoa," Cara said silently as she collected Nimo's canter from the hand gallop they were doing. She collected and extended it a few times then did a flying lead change across the diagonal. He did it with ease. Cara remembered when she first rode Nimo he had lead problems. Cara pulled the gelding to a walk and let him cool down before jumping. As she did, she watched the stallion and the other rider.
The dressage stallion was doing tempi lead changed across the middle. He seemed flawless as he switched back and forth Cara couldn't help but smile. Nimo seemed keen on watching to as he had his black tipped ears perked forward in curiosity. The boy praised his horse and let him walk on a loose rein.
"Nice animal you have there," the other rider called out to her. Cara smiled and steered Nimo towards the pair so they wouldn't have to yell at eachother. "Well he is very pretty. You guys look amazing together," Cara commented studying the pinto stallion. He had a very nice muscle build and looked very fit. "This is Nimo. His show name is Animoso and he is a 10 year old Dutch Warmblood. I got him from my mother, a retired grand prix rider," Cara explained introducing her horse. As if Nimo knew he was being talked about his lifted up his head. "I'm Cara Sommers from Team Cohaero."

"Well he is very pretty. You guys look amazing together," the girl said to him. Felix smiled in acknowledgement. He was very proud of his boy, and loved him almost as much as he loved his family. Whenever somebody complimented the horse he could feel pride well up in his chest. "This is Nimo. His show name is Animoso and he is a 10 year old Dutch Warmblood. I got him from my mother, a retired grand prix rider." Felix nodded. "Retired grand prix riderSTAFF POSITIONS Impressive. My parents don't know enough about horses to know the back end from the front end most of the time. I definitely did not get my riding skills from them," Felix chuckled. The girl continued, "I'm Cara Sommers from Team Cohaero." He moved the stallion back a few steps and angled him so he wasn't facing the girl and her gelding head-on, but at an angle. He took his feet out of the irons and relaxed, loosening his reins. Kadar's head drooped a bit, his ears flopping. Felix could almost see his eyelids sagging as he went into 'riding break, nap time' mode. This pleased Felix; it meant the stallion wasn't anxious about the workout anymore. "Ah, so you're the competition. I thought as much. You're on the winning team, nonetheless. That's alright though - there are some shows coming up and Kadar and I will get you Cohaeros." Felix winked at her. "So how old are you anywaySTAFF POSITIONS Pretty little thing, but I bet you're technically jailbait for me. You don't look legal yet. Not that I'm hitting on you or trying to pick you up. Just Felix' idea of casual conversation." He smiled sheepishly, his eyes twinkling. The sun was starting to rise in the sky and he could feel the warmth of it's rays touching the back of his neck now. Pretty soon it would be too hot to stand in the outdoor and he would have to either move into the indoor, or put Kadar away. Because of how well Kadar had been performing, he figured he would be putting him away instead of working him more. But first, he wanted to see how the girl would react to his awkward statements. He loved making people feel uncomfortable, and because she was on the other team, he really didn't mind if she decided he was a pig. All in a day's work! SOMEDAY I'LL BE LIVING IN A BIG OLD CITY And all you're ever gonna be is mean•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Cara smiled as Felix looked down at his mount in pride. She felt that way about Nimo too and stroked his shoulder as he hung his head down. Cara listened to the boy talk about her mother and his parents. She laughed halfheartedly. Just like my dad. My dad was the money most of the time and my mom was the trainer," she smiled looking at Nimo's black tipped ears.
Cara watched the other rider move his horse so he wasn't right in front of the pair and then let his stallion relax. She could tell the pinto was quite tired the way he held his head down and half closed his eyes. "Ah, so you're the competition. I thought as much. You're on the winning team, nonetheless. That's alright though - there are some shows coming up and Kadar and I will get you Cohaeros." he said almost taunting Cara in a fun way. Cara smiled and replied, "Sure. We'll just see who wins."

Cara felt the sun on her back and neck and turned around in the saddle to look at it rise. She really wanted to jump a bit before putting Nimo away so she turned him back to the rail of the ring.
"I'm just gonna jump around before it gets really hot," Cara called picking up the trot and getting Nimo on the bit. She picked up the canter and went around over a small 3' vertical to start a few times. Nimo jumped it like a perfect hunter every time.

[/i] Felix smiled casually, flipping Kadar's mane on his neck so it was all on one side. It was getting a bit long; he'd have to trim it up soon. "So you're not jailbait, and I could be hitting on you with no negative consequences," Felix chuckled, half-jesting, half-serious. Either she could handle him or she couldn't. Compared to his normal personality, he was being really well-behaved today. He looked at her then, really looked at her, to decide if he was actually going to hit on her or if he was going to leave this as an acquaintance at parting. He was cool with one-night stands, even if he'd feel like a cradle robber, what with her being a whopping 5 years younger than he. However he wasn't sure if they were her deal. Maybe she's one of those really honourable Virgin Mary types, Felix thought, I bet I could really have some being a total shit with her then. He smiled again to himself. She had turned her horse from him at this point. "I'm just gonna jump around before it gets really hot," Felix agreed with her, pushing Kadar into a relaxed trot. The stallions neck was stretched long and low, his head bobbing playfully with each stride. Kadar snorted agreeably and Felix scratched just in front of the pommel, on his withers. He loved being scratched there. Felix watched as Cara completed the jumps, her horse the perfect picture of 'hunter horse.' Kadar wasn't much of a hunter; he was all about speed and forward. The horse got a kick out of jumping, the bigger the better, and he would go bananas at the sight of jumps as a younger horse. With all of the Dressage work came discipline, though, and although Felix could feel him tense up excitedly ever so slightly when they turned to face jumps, he knew he didn't have to expect the same explosive headlong gallops.
