••• I said I wish that we could stay here. But I fear our time has come.We could ride out in the darkness, chasing the rising sun. •••
The brunette walked through the grassy courtyard towards the school office. Summer had definitely arrived and she was already dying from the heat. "Nobody should be outside right now," she muttered under her breath as she ran a hand through her wavy hair. She jogged up the steps and ripped open the door, exhaling in relief as the cool air conditioning hit her flushed face. She walked up to the front desk and flashed the plump woman behind it a polite smile. "Hi, Mrs. Smith. How are you todaySTAFF POSITIONS " She questioned as she wrote her name in sloppy cursive on the sign in sheet. "Oh I'm just fine dear, how's your summer goingSTAFF POSITIONS Are you here about scheduling for next yearSTAFF POSITIONS " Mrs. Smith looked up at her through her red glasses before returning to typing on her desktop computer. "It's been fun so far. Fun but hot." Avery replied as her lips spread into a grin. "Sure am. Probably should have came in a little sooner but you know how time slips away from me." They exchanged idle small talk for a few more minutes before the phone rang and Mrs. Smith told her that the schedule manager would be with her soon.
Avery walked down the short hallway on the left to a waiting room where a few other students were sitting. A scared freshman sat and nervously tapped her sandaled foot as her mom barked commands into her cellphone. That was one of the annoyances of Hollow Aspen boarding school...there were quite a few stuck up overprivileged students. Well actually, the same was true for the whole equestrian community. She walked over to the farthest corner from the designer dressed mother and sat down in one of the many open, plush chairs. She really should have come earlier to get her schedule set up instead of spending every free moment she could at the beach or barn. Who knew what classes and teachers she would be left with nowSTAFF POSITIONS What if she got stuck with that horrid history teacher who reeked of B.O. and went off on so many tangents that you didn't know what country you were even learning aboutSTAFF POSITIONS
Crossing her leg over her knee, she looked around the cream painted room. Briefly meeting eyes with the freshman, she gave her a sympathetic smile. It was probably hell having a mother like that. There were a few other students lounging around with the same bored expression that masked her face. The scheduling director, who also dealt with some of the problems on campus, took a lifetime and a half with each student. She sighed and placed her chin in the palm of her hand, her earth toned irises flickering to the hallway where a british accent rang out.

A lightly tanned hand brushed over an already pristine shoulder bag of a navy blue color. Inhaling deeply and letting the exhale come out slowly over dry lips, Henery Lockhert prepared himself to enter the awaiting office in front of him. Grasping the door knob he yanked it open smoothly and casually guided himself inside the brightly walled room. “Hi, I’m here to see Mr. Caldadash.”
[/b]The sixteen year old immediately stated his purpose with a polite smile on his flawless face as the secretary’s eyes flitted up toward him on his entrance. The woman gave a warm smile and turned her hands to her computer and began typing away. “And what is your name STAFF POSITIONS ” The older lady questioned, her hand coming up to adjust the glasses that were slipping down her nose. Henery nearly cringed from the nerdy red color that was almost frightening in the fluorescent lighting. Trying to maintain his pleasing manner he decided to drop a compliment, “Jaymison-Nathaniel Lockhert and can I just say I really love your glasses. My girlfriend just got some that exact same color.” [/b]He lied effortlessly, a friendliness twisting his lips upward as the woman gave him a grateful look. “Thank you my husband bought these for me, he thought the color would look good on me.” She gushed, touching a hand proudly to the bright frames. “Well he was right.” [/b]Henery winked, as the woman reached for her phone and started to dial in some numbers. “You can go have a seat Mr. Lockhert, I will let Mr. Caladash know you are here.” The secretary said, with a brighter smile then before as the young man turned to make his way to the mostly empty sitting area. Eyeing his choice of seats, it was easy to guess he choose to sit near the most attractive person in the room. It was a general rule of his to never be seen with anyone less then suitable for his high standards. Plopping down two plushy seats away from the brunette to his left he situated himself comfortably and let his back rest on the floor. “Hallo there. Henery.”[/b] The boy introduced himself in his thick accent, wasting no time in getting acquainted with the girl. There was no doubt she was undeniably pretty and carried a welcoming demeanor that encouraged him to speak with her. After the physical contact a proper greeting usually entailed, the teenager sank back into his seat. Considering the terribly hot weather outside, the boy had dressed as lightly as possible while trying to retain his upscale look. A thin, light-green button up shirt and navy blue dress pants meeting with brown loafers made up his summer day attire. Brushing a hand through his gelled brown and blonde locks, his dark eyes surveyed the room for a moment. “So are you new to Hollow AspenSTAFF POSITIONS ” [/b]The boy prodded, letting those hazel orbs roll onto the face of the girl he was questioning. One hand reached up, finger curling underneath the shiny blue tie he wore tightly around his neck. He gave it a stiff tug and swallowed before dropping his hand back into his lap as his cell phone started to vibrate inside his pants pocket. He fished it out and let his eyes quickly glaze over the text message that was displayed there, before tossing to the side of his seat with a huff of disinterest. ••• I said I wish that we could stay here. But I fear our time has come.We could ride out in the darkness, chasing the rising sun. •••
Smoothing her white eyelet sundress over her thighs, her gaze flickered over to the attractive newcomer as he crossed the room toward her chair. Scanning her brain, she hadn't remembered seeing him around campus before. Of course it was a big school but she didn't think she'd forget a face like his. His voice rang out with that thick British accent of his that made her wonder where exactly he was from. Certainly hadn't lived here his whole life, that's for sure. She angled her body towards him as her lips spread into a warm smile. "Hi Henery, I'm Avery,"
[/b] she replied in an affable voice. The two teens reached over the seat separating them and shook hands after their introductions. The brunette hoped her skin wasn't still clammy from the summer heat. She really should have driven over from the dorms. It wasn't a far walk though so it seemed like it would take longer to search for her keys, get in her car, and drive over than it would be to just cut through the courtyard. Eh, maybe I'll just do everything early in the morning or late at night from now on.Her head swiveled back to her new acquaintance when she realized she was staring at a potted plant across the room, lost in her own thoughts once again. Cocking her head slightly to the left, her brown eyes looked over his face with interest. His russet tinted eyes were especially luring, as was his voice. "No," she shook her head, her brown locks shifting on her bare shoulders. "I was actually here last year. Were youSTAFF POSITIONS If you were, I don't believe we had any classes together." Her attention shifted to the wooden door of Mr. Caldadash's office as it swung open and a student walked out with a slip of paper in hand and a thankful look that he was finally out of the long meeting. The tall, suited man came to the door eyeing a clipboard and called out the next name on the list. The nervous freshman and her mother, who had finally put her cell phone away, strode into the office. Being the impatient person she was, Avery sighed and ran a frustrated hand through her hair. So, what are you in here for, HenerySTAFF POSITIONS Not bad behavior, I could imagine, she questioned with an approving glance at his outfit. Yeah, he didn't seem like that type. His cool clean hand grasped her warm, and he soon discovered slightly moist, one as they exchanged a short shake. Withdrawing slowly he let his hand run nonchalantly over his pants to remove any germs and traces of moisture that might have accompanied them. “Avery... Pleasure to meet you.”
[/b] Henery practically purred her name, as he practiced its sound on his tongue. A silence rolled over them as each let their attention drift off to some bromidic part of the room with a feigned interest. The young man’s concentration was the first to return to their conversation and his question swiftly drug her’s back as well. “Oh I see.” [/b] Henery said, turning his head with disregard as he found himself not unexpectedly disinterested in the conversation. From the corner of his eyes he noticed her eyes were fixed on him awaiting an answer. “I just transferred here from another school.” [/b] He said with a blank face, not having heard her question but assuming that bit of information would clear up anything she might have been wondering about. The girl’s eyes quickly shot toward one of the doors opening in the hallway, and Henery let his gazed meander over there as well. As one student left, another in the waiting room replaced them in the white-doored office. Hearing a sound emit from Avery, he frowned and furrowed his brows as observed her for a thoughtful moment. It appeared she was also waiting to see Mr. Caldadash, which meant Henery was going to be there for awhile yet. Might as well make the best of it as he did not have the luxury of returning at a less busy time. A chuckle rolled from his throat and slight smile of amusement curled his mouth. “You never know, appearances can be deceiving.” [/b] He teased, though an actual hint of truth lay in his words. That constant mask of friendliness and attention toward others helped keep people unaware of the dark turmoil inside the young man. Pulling at his sleeve he adjusted it to avoid the crease that was beginning to form in the fabric. The girl might be pretty, but he found the way she moved her mouth when she talked to be a bit irritating. That coupled with her dress that just begged guys to flip her skirt, caused Henery to immediately mark her down as either annoying or a slut. He was sure a few more minutes trapped in this office, he would know which category to place her in. “I’m here to get my dorm assignment.”[/b] He decided to deign her with a reply and debated laying on the charm as it might serve his best interests to begin making friendships of some sort. “And may I ask why you are hereSTAFF POSITIONS No, let me guess. You either are getting an award for best smile, or coming to discuss funding for your cheer-leading squadSTAFF POSITIONS ” [/b]He proposed, rubbing his chin with a mocking look of deep pondering. Dark eyes rolled up to meet hers and a trifling smile was sliding across his lips. ••• I said I wish that we could stay here. But I fear our time has come.We could ride out in the darkness, chasing the rising sun. •••
She listened to his silky voice, so different from what she was used to around these parts. "The pleasure's mine," Avery replied, placing her hand back in her lap. She wondered how long she would be in this waiting room and resisted the urge to tap her foot or one of the other nuisances she tended to pick up when she was left with time to kill. Squirming in her seat, she tried to get comfortable. The brunette nodded at his response and questioned him about his whereabouts the previous year. Running a hand through her chocolate colored locks, her eyes stayed fixed on the Brit, waiting for a response. She could had had a more exciting and fast paced conversation with a wall. Henery finally spoke again, giving her the answer she was looking for. So she really hadn't seen the hazel eyed teen before.
"Ahh, that makes sense. Well it's a nice school. I think you'll like it here." She didn't know if he'd like the new school or not. He was probably from some fancy British school where you sipped tea all day, talked about politics, and fawned over the queen. But she might as well try to make him feel welcome and it was a nice school. There were so many activities, interesting people, and places to go. There really never was a dull day at Hollow Aspen.
When the door closed and the room she was waiting for was once again occupied, Avery knew that the wait would be longer still. She silently cursed Mr. Caldadash's horrid office hours before turning a set of curious eyes toward Henery. He laughed at her comment, an amused look entering his eyes. Appearances can be deceiving. Now he had spiked her interest. What could he have possibly meant by thatSTAFF POSITIONS The glint in his eyes and slight turn up of his lips suggested he was merely teasing but she couldn't be so sure. "Hmm, I guess that's true. Casey Anthony probably looked normal enough to her friends," the teen teased with a wry smile.
Watching as the male adjusted his sleeve, she wondered if he was always this uptight. Maybe he had a little OCDSTAFF POSITIONS Her earth toned eyes flitted back up to his face as his voice hit her ears. "Oh okay. Well it might be awhile. Mr. Caldadash takes his sweet time, unfortunately, she replied with an annoyed glade at the closed wooden door. "You know about the different teams and all, I supposeSTAFF POSITIONS " For the life of her, she couldn't remember if they included all of that information in the welcome packet. Of course Mr. Caldadash would probably rant on about all of that once he spoke to Henery.
She let out a short laugh before shaking her head at him with a bemused look on her face. "Dang, how'd you knowSTAFF POSITIONS I don't even have my pom poms with me," Avery replied in a sarcastic voice, rolling her eyes at his mocking look. Meeting his gaze with an inquisitive eyes, she pursed her lips together for a moment before returning his smile.
