Today hadn't been going so well for Felix Caordan, a 23 year old Fidens student. He had woken early which was extremely unusual for him, as he was not a morning person, and he had traveled to the barn to go for a nice trail ride on his stallion before the heat set in. Then he was planning on going into the indoor and doing some bounces. However, when he had gotten to the barn, Kadar had seemed off. Felix couldn't pinpoint anything, so he pulled him out and put him in the crossties, his brush box sitting on the ground beside him. He groomed the stallion for no more than 5 minutes when Kadar did it. He humped up his back, kicked at his belly, and groaned. Felix heart stopped. He placed his ear against the stallions barrel and heard no audible gut sounds. Panic ensued. He grabbed his cell phone from his pocket in such a haste that he had dropped it and shattered the screen. When he picked it up and put it back together, he was relieved to see it turn on, but over the moon pissed that he had broken it. However, that was the least of his worries. He speed dialed the vet, hoping he'd pressed the correct button - he couldn't see a thing on his screen. "Good morning, Dr. Peyters office." Felix explained what was happening as he gripped Kadar's halter. The stallion was starting to sweat and his knees had buckled a few times. Felix needed to get him moving. The vet gave him some concise directions and said he'd be over promptly. Felix put the lead shank over the stallions nose and unclipped him, leading him forward. Kadar was sluggish and hunched up, and moved very slowly. Felix smacked him on his rump with the end of the line a few times, making Kadar jump forward. He felt guilty at the indignant, pained look on his horses face, but he had to keep him moving. The ten minutes it took for the vets emergency vehicle to get to the barn was painfully, agonizingly slow. The vet took his vitals, listened to Felix' explanation of how the morning had played out, and then gave Kadar a mild sedation and a shot of banamine. When the stallion was dazed and complacent enough, he threaded a tube into his nostril down into his stomach, and dosed him with mineral oil. It seemed like hours later, with the vet and Felix simply observing Kadar, that the vet determined he was going to be alright, there was no damage in his gut, and he could leave. There were gut sounds again, the stallion had defecated, and he was coming out from under the sedation. Felix thanked him, paid him with Visa, and spent another two hours brushing Kadar and walking him in 10 minute intervals. The stablehands were done most of their chores and one offered to keep an eye on Kadar. He had Felix' cell number, and Felix was very hungry... So he agreed. He had felt anxious ever since. He had even managed to dial the barn and ask about him. The stablehand said he had checked his vitals with their first aid bag and he was munching a quarter flake of hay right this second. The vet had put in a check-up call into the barn and the stablehand said that the vet figured everything was just fine now. Felix breathed a sigh of relief at that. Now, he was sitting in the Starbucks lounge with a large Caramel Macchiato with double caramel and espresso shots, reading the paper. The knot in his stomach hadn't completely dissipated, but it was much better. He was feeling well enough, in fact, that he was even doing his regular people watching. There was a couple with a child who was being a monkey - this made him smile - a super hot brunette with million dollar legs, and a pair of elderly ladies playing chess on a chesterfield. He sipped his drink and took a deep breath. Everything was going to be OK.
