"You wake up to the excited shouts of your mother in the kitchen. You wonder briefly what exactly she's on about until you realize she's saying, "YOU'RE IN, YOU'RE IN!!" And then suddenly, your world feels like it's been flipped upside down and you're so damn elated you fly into the kitchen and pick your mother up in a great. Big. Bear hug."
Being accepted at Hollow Aspen is no small feat. Although they take green riders, they only take green riders that show great promise for being super stars in the future. After all, Hollow Aspen has a reputation to uphold. The reputation of being the 'finest equestrian school in all of Canada.'
The application process is a very large stack of papers, several audition tapes and perhaps home visits by Hollow Aspen staff. Your horse is nearly never good enough, so you have to either have the money for a new one or have giving parents. There is no tuition for attending Hollow Aspen. The only stipulation is that you do well.
Creator Maverick Andenhal thought that pitting the students against each other would help increase their drive to succeed, and did it ever work. The students battle it out for a year end cup - that competition lasts from September to June - and then in the summer the winning team competes in individualized competitions. The winning team then competes over the summer months in a high-stakes free for all.
Come on over and meet your team mates. Hate them, love them, it doesn't matter. What matters is that you work together... And win.
