[/div] - -From a glance; The Essentials • Nickname;; JJ, Jay • Breed;; Anatolian Shepherd • Age;; 5yo • Gender;; Male • Owner;; Noah Vanderholt • Appearance;; click- -The covers; Personality [/s] Jay's easy to describe; he is a good, loyal dog, reserved towards strangers, relaxed and almost playful around 'his' human. Often used as a flock guard, JJ can be quite protective of his human or his 'flock', but after a formal introduction he won't easily perceive you as a threat to Noah. JJ is pretty intelligent and independent - which sometimes manifests itself in disobedience, but seldom for a bad cause. When he gets bored, it usually costs you shoes legs or furniture. While laying at rest and watching his human is a quite agreeable pastime for him, on occasion he likes his long walks, runs (alongside a horse, for example), perhaps a hunt or a nice swim. He'll seldom go off alone, though. - -The backstory; History [/s] JJ's been with Noah Vanderholt since his birth - and in a way, before that. Going back some four, five generations, this line of Anatolian Shepherds was in the Vanderholt possession, roaming fairly freely around their farm in Namibia, keeping an eye on either the herd of horses or some of the sheep and cattle they had, while protecting it from wildlife. This particular nest, though, was socialized quite a bit more and only left around the herds when they were two or three years old, ensuring their bond with 'their' human was good - and somehow, Noah had managed to get the only male from the litter to follow him like a lovesick puppy, insofar as that was possible with the breed. After his acceptance at HA, he trained the dog to handle smaller, enclosed rooms and then got permission to take him along, not wanting to leave JJ behind. [/div] - -From a glance; The Essentials • Nickname;; Karoo • Breed;; TB x Kaaps Boerperd • Age;; 7yo • Gender;; Mare • Owner;; Noah Vanderholt • Appearance;; click- -The covers; Personality [/s] Karoo is an intriguing bundle of energy. At heart she's eager to please, obedient and intelligent, but on the surface there's fire aplenty. As good a horse as she is, she's not a mindless robot performing her paces. Au contraire, she much prefers to shake things up a bit, but only in practice - it is as if she's got a radar that tells her when she can fool around and when it is absolutely not a good idea. Cool and steady are two words that fit splendidly with her. There's not much that startles her, and even if it does, she doesn't react outrageously. She has a healthy respect for her rider and genuinely seems to care for him - while she can be a handful with other handlers, she never seems to give Noah grief if he isn't up for it. They both trust each other completely, to the point where he frequently rode her with only a halter at home or that she followed him like a puppy, once nearly ending up in the kitchen. - -The backstory; History [/s] Karoo was bred on Windshear Farm, the result of a lot of hard work and pleading on Noah's part to get permission to let their Boerperd mare be covered by a TB of his fancy. As she was his 'pet project', he was also responsible for raising and training her, which he did with a lot of gusto. Between the other horses he had tor ide and school work, he spent most of his free time with the mare, resulting in a tight bond between them. He was the one to break her in, to teach her left and right, to take her on her first trail ride. They faced her first hippo together, jumped her first competition together. They were pretty much inseparable, Karoo practically reduced to a puppy in the pastures. Upon his acceptance to the academy, the choice was easily made to take Karoo along.
